About Me.

Hi, I'm Alison.

Throughout my academic career, I always enjoyed writing and the process of storytelling. I learned in high school that there was an entire field that studied human behavior and the brain, leading to my education in neuroscience and psychology.

After completing my PhD in Behavioral Neuroscience and two postdoctoral appointments, I was able to merge storytelling and science into a career in medical communications. For over a decade, I partnered with medical affairs and promo med ed teams to turn complex science into clear, accurate, and engaging stories.

In the past few years, I watched AI evolve from novelty to necessity; moreover, I saw the gap between its potential and its practical use grow wider. Even before I launched SynaptoGen, I could see the problem firsthand: everyone knew AI could make work faster and smarter, but in an industry driven by impossible timelines and constant deliverables, no one had the breathing room to actually figure it out. Tools looked promising in theory, but, in practice, they were clunky, inconsistent, or just too time-consuming to explore. Beyond the tools themselves, using AI effectively requires a new way of thinking and working.

Why SynaptoGen?

That disconnect between the potential and reality of AI frustrated and stuck with me, but there wasn’t much I could do about it while I had my own deadlines and team to worry about. Then I was laid off.

Taking a step back gave me the space to think clearly about what I actually wanted to build next. I realized I didn’t want to jump back into a similar role and use AI; I wanted to help others in medical communications learn to use AI well. With a background that combines neuroscience, storytelling, and over 10 years in medical communications, I recognized that my perspective is uniquely suited to be the bridge between AI technology and medical communications.

I began exploring roles that sat between AI and medical communications, and I quickly realized the position I envisioned didn’t exist. The few roles that came close were focused on a technical background with requirements for machine learning expertise- important, yes, but not the same as understanding client work, timelines and the messy, human side of agency life. To bridge those worlds effectively, someone has to speak both languages.

So, I built the role I wanted.

The guiding light of SynaptogGen AI is helping med comms professionals and teams use AI in the real world. Not as a novelty, but as an extension of how they already think and work, and then as an expansion beyond what is currently possible. My focus is on reducing friction, increasing efficiency, and helping people actually get value from AI tools in their day-to-day workflows.

The name comes from synaptogenesis — the creation of new neural connections — paired with generative AI. It represents the link between how people learn and how technology can help them work better.
